A leading International Academic Publisher, based in Oxford is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Production Editor for an initial fixed term contract of 6-8 months to manage the production of a group of titles within one of their Journals Production teams. The position involves the production control of a portfolio of academic journals to house styles, schedules, budgets and quality requirements.


This is a wide-ranging production role and responsibilities will include:
* Chasing academic editors for copy for publication to agreed schedules.
* Checking copy edited manuscripts, selecting and monitoring freelance copy editors.
* Preparing issues for typesetting and coordinating proof dispatch.
* Coordinating and collating authors' and editors' corrections.
* Coordinating, checking and passing issues for press.
* Checking bound copies and online issues.
* Monitoring and implementing schedules, progress chasing.
* Quality control throughout the publication process.
* Managing workflows to identify bottlenecks, added value and ways in which workflows can be streamlined
* Communicating effectively and forging strong working relationships to provide first-rate service to authors, editors and societies
* Effective management of suppliers to ensure consistent, high quality work
* Working as an enthusiastic team player within a dynamic, effective and flexible team to achieve high quality, fast publication

You will ideally have some relevant publishing production experience, have a keen eye for detail, happy to work to tight deadlines and possess excellent communication and organisational skills. Previous production experience either from a journal or a book background is desirable. A knowledge of the production/publishing process is an added advantage. We will also look at candidates who have some publishing experience, even if it is not from a production background but who have knowledge of the process and keen to work in a production environment.
